When I begin comparing trimmers one of the first things I look at is versatility. I want a trimmer that has plenty of settings so I can get that nice stubble look or go a bit longer in the winter. The Panasonic ER-GB40-S has 19 cut setting ranging from 1 to 10 millimeters. Settings are controlled with a dial so you no need for numerous attachments.
One of the other features I look for in a trimmer is how it is powered. A lot of trimmers are battery powered or corded. The Panasonic ER-GB40-S operates cordless and actually comes with a standalone charging station! Charging stations are quite common among electric shavers but not very common for trimmers.
The fact that the Panasonic ER-GB40-S can be used wet or dry is really big for me. I like to do my grooming in the shower and I’m sure a lot of other guys feel the same. As it is
waterproof, this makes for easy cleaning. There is also a water drain system allowing water to flow through the unit for a more efficient cleaning.
The Panasonic ER-GB40-S comes with a spring loaded cutting system featuring stainless steel hypoallergenic blades cut at a 45 degree angle for optimal performance.
There are only a few minor drawbacks about this trimmer. The first has to do with the charging stand. I love the fact that it comes with a charging stand, however, the red indicator light doesn’t go off when it’s done charging. It would have been nice to have an LED or LCD on the station that lets you know it’s fully charged.
The second drawback is there is no worldwide dual voltage. This is an important feature for guys who travel abroad.
While these two cons are more a matter of preference, they are still important features for a lot of guys. Panasonic delivers a near perfect trimmer but fails to leave out two simple features that could have made this trimmer superb. Who am I to judge, it did win the Men’s Health Grooming Award for 2013.
