I don’t usually play this kind of leisurely game. But one day, I accidentally found it. People compliment this game so much that I’m curious. So I downloaded and tried it out. I still have it on my phone. Whenever my mind is confused, my mood is distracted, I always play for about twenty minutes to relax.

Playing a game without any “games”, how do you feel?

Townscaper will give you the freedom to build different large and small towns according to your ability, on an ancient island with endless winding roads. It is so detailed that you can see every little hamlet, towering church, dense network of canals and the great castle leaning over the lake.

Different from regular games, regardless of genre, it always comes with a certain task, no matter how big or small it is. As for Townscaper, there are no quests in the entire game.

While all the games I have played so far have a certain genre. If it’s not role-playing, it’s also adventure, platform, card, turn-based. However, Townscaper does not belong to any playstyle or genre.

On an island full of water as desolate as a giant convex sphere, only blue and green. You will be the creator, building each thing that makes up your city, with your thoughts and imagination.

Touch the screen. Leave the water untouched or select the Grid mode on the right hand side to display the grid cells that divide the island into many uneven blocks. Select the color on the left hand side. Move and drop in any block, immediately a construction will appear in it. Just aim and choose a color, Townscaper’s amazing smart algorithm will randomly turn the selected block into a cute house, a small dome or a staircase, an overpass, or a green backyard. All are random, only based on the background shape of the selected place, the rest is up to the system to decide.

For example, when building a house with a hole in the middle, it will automatically turn into a small skylight. Or build an entire street and leave a square, it will be possible to create a monumental square.

Going through the gentle construction process, then every once in a while, looking back at each street and every corner of the city is when you realize how much sadness in your heart is gone. Only positive energy remains is the feeling of lightness and peace like the still water in the game. Isn’t this both an Experience and an adventure of Inspiration?

You have an amazingly detailed city

The city you build, small or large, colorful or monochrome, is a true Mediterranean coastal ensemble. Do not think the city was built like that but judge that it has only appearance without depth. The beauty of the game is that everything is generated extremely randomly, but each component is extremely detailed. A house has just appeared, you zoom in and you will see it clearly, 3D and detailed. The mailbox in front of the house, the lawn in the backyard, there is also a rain-covered porch in front, there is a chimney above, and there are pigeons taking shelter temporarily, If hitting the roof to continue construction, the pigeons will flap your wings and fly away. Townscaper’s details are no joke.

And you have to imagine every nook and cranny of the big city you’re trying to create, all in such detail. Each place has different details, objects, locations, and arrangements. I respect the designer who created this indie game (it’s rumored to be a single individual, not a team, the designer must be very talented to make such a memorable game) .

There are no constraints in the game. No matter what you do with variations, your city stays stable. With the experience of rebuilding dozens of times in this game, I see it. As a start, do it from small buildings per brick. Then connect them to form rows of streets, row after row of houses, which is considered to create a common foundation for the city. This stage is extremely important, because even without instructions or warnings, but the background is thin and soft, of course, sooner or later your massive city will collapse and sink to the bottom of the sea.

Once the foundation is solid, start raising, expanding and creating outstanding structures such as castles, temples, etc. In this upgrade, let your imagination lead the way. It’s been a long time since there was a game that was as light as the wind but caused so much nostalgia that it had to be reinstalled to play over and over again.
