The MicroKY Duostar Portable Karaoke is made by Kumyong, a brand name popular in South Korea but not all that well known through the Western world. So, naturally I was cautiously excited to see how this moderately priced but technologically ahead karaoke machine would pan out to be. First impressions last long and boy did it leave a good feeling! I called over a couple of friends for testing it out and we set it up in under 5 minutes without even reading the instruction manual, which by the way is tiny considering there are not that many technical things to do. Simply feed 2 AA batteries into each wireless mic, connect the karaoke device to your television and you are ready to rumble.
Initially, what dumbfounded me was why there were controls on each microphone as well as a separate remote. Well, as it turns out there are plenty of buttons on the mic to record or change the way the player is performing but the remote for the base mostly deals in volume, settings and even the playback feature of the karaoke machine. Overall, the different remotes did prove handy whether I was jiving to a tune or singing along with the lyrics.
The MicroKY Duostar Portable Karaoke is not all that dense when it comes R&B tracks and does leave you wanting a little more but on the whole, the experience is outstanding with this wireless karaoke machine. Duets are really fun thanks to both the microphones being wireless and standing close by or holding them in any particular manner does not seem to detract from the quality of playback or introduce any unwanted noise into the background.
