Philips Satinelle Epilator Review

There are several models in the Philips Stainelle epilator lineup. The two that I will be discussing are the HP6400 and the HP6401. While there are a few other models in the Philips Satinelle epilator series, the other models are either being phased out and as such are way overpriced or they are currently unavailable.

The first epilator we’ll look at is the HP6400. Let’s take a look at some of the features to help you decide if this is the right epilator for you.

Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6400 Features

The HP6400 has 21 tweezers or discs that capture and pull the hair from the root. This helps to reduce the chance of ingrown hairs and provides up to four weeks of hair free legs. I’m specifying legs as this is not a good choice for ladies who are looking for an epilator to use on facial hair. There are simply not enough tweezers making it delicate enough for that task.

If you are looking for an epilator that you can use on the bikini line, again, this may not be a great choice. I recommend an Emjoi Emagine for facial hair and the bikini line. This is however a good choice for those looking for an inexpensive yet powerful epilator to use on the legs.

The HP6400 has two speed settings. The first setting pulls at 600 actions per second while the second pulls at 733 actions per second. Supposedly, the first setting is supposed to be more delicate. Though, after talking with several women who have used this model, the difference is minimal at best.

The power cord on this model is very long and it is quite easy to clean. Another great feature is the worldwide voltage. The voltage can adapt from 100 to 240v so you can use this epilator worldwide.

If I don’t sound too enthusiastic about this epilator it’s because I feel it is way overpriced and lacks in features. Honestly, you’re better off with the HP6401 which is half the price. However, if you have your heart set on it you can purchase it from Amazon through the following link for 50% off of retail…which is still too much in my opinion!

Okay, now that we got that out of the way, let’s look at the Philips Satinelle epilator that costs way less and is more functional, the HP6401.

Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6401 Features

The HP6400 and HP6401 have a few similarities. The HP6401 also has 21 discs that capture hair at the root. The HP6401 can capture hair as short as ½ millimeter. The discs are hypoallergenic and easy to remove and clean.

One of the main features that set the two models apart is an efficiency cap. The HP6401 has an efficiency cap making it ideal to use on sensitive areas such as the bikini line and underarm area. The great thing about epilators (even though they can be painful) is they are great for women with sensitive skin. They won’t cause you razor burn; you don’t have to worry about using harsh chemicals, and no more nicks and cuts.

The HP6401 also has two speed settings and operates corded. While it can grab hair as short as ½ millimeter, the ideal length for epilating is three to four millimeters. For best results, hold the head at a right angle to the skin. Make sure to move the head slowly and go against the direction the hair is growing in.

As far as the Philips Satinelle epilator series, I believe the HP6401 is the best choice based on function and price. Currently you can purchase the HP6401 from Amazon through the following link for 25% off of retail.
