The Emjoi Emagine line of epilators feature several models including the first ever epilator specifically designed for men. Honestly, as I began researching and taking a closer look there isn’t much that separates a “women’s epilator” from an epilator designed for men. The main difference is in the design and color. Maybe Emjoi made men’s a little more powerful as they know guy’s can’t handle anywhere near the amount of pain as a women can (lol, sad but true).
The first Emjoi Emagine epilator we will look at is the AP-18. This is a women’s epilator, though there is also an AP-18 designed for men and it comes in black.
For anyone considering using an epilator but has not actually tried one before, I can tell you they can be quite painful. With continued use you become more comfortable with it and some disagree with me and say they don’t hurt at all. Now that you’ve been warned, let’s take a look at the AP-18.
Emjoi Emagine AP-18
The Emjoi Emagine AP-18 features 72 tweezer heads allowing for faster hair removal which also reduces irritation. Another comfort feature is the “Glide Technology” which lifts the hair allowing the tweezers to glide over the skin.
One of the issues with hair removal is the possibility of ingrown hairs. They can be unsightly as well as painful. The AP-18 has “lifting fingers” which reduce the chance of ingrown hair as they get the flat laying and short hairs at the root.
The AP-18 functions as a corded epilator. Therefore, it does not need to be charged. As it is corded, it cannot be used in the bath, shower, or anywhere near water! This limits use but at least you don’t have to worry about remembering to charge.
Epilators can be used just about anywhere on the body where there is hair. Though, some epilators work better than other on those sensitive areas. The Emjoi Emagine AP-18 can be used on facial hair, under arms, legs, and the bikini line with results lasting up to six weeks.
Out of nearly 800 Amazon ratings, the AP-18 received an average rating of 4 out of a possible 5 stars. Currently, you can purchase the Emjoi Emagine AP-18 through the buy from Amazon button below.
For the ladies, I have another epilator I will go over below, but first let’s take a look at the first epilator designed for men, the Emjoi Emgaine AP-18MS.
Emjoi Emagine AP-18MS
The Emjoi Emagine AP-18MS also has 72 tweezers. There are currently no other epilators on the market with more tweezers. The tweezers are mounted on a “cool touch” metal head which also help reduce skin irritation.
The AP-18MS can be used on back hair, chest hair, and on legs. I wouldn’t advise using this on facial hair unless you have really fine hair. I can only imagine how painful it would be for a guy to use this on the face, especially if you have really thick hair as many guys do.
For added comfort, the AP-18MS has dual opposed heads. This feature helps to hold skin taught while the tweezers do their job. Like the AP-18 for ladies, this also has middle lifting fingers that work to get those short or flat laying hairs.
One piece of advice for guys who have lots of hair…trim first! Use a beard trimmer or clippers to do a once over before using an epilator. This might take a bit longer but you will thank me and so will your skin. While an epilator can and will get those longer hairs, it is going to be a lot more painful if you don’t trim first.
As I stated previously, there’s really not a major difference between this model and the one for women. The main difference is the design and color. Apart from that, this model features dual speed control and has the opposing heads.
When I began my research on this model, I didn’t have high hopes. I don’t know too many guys that use epilators. That’s not to say they aren’t effective. It’s just most guys that practice below the neck grooming generally use a body shaver or other grooming tool such as the bodygroom pro.
At any rate, the AP-18MS did not receive a great average rating, receiving 3.5 out of a possible 5 star rating based on nearly 100 reviews. Honesty, one of the main reasons for this rating is because most guys are wimps! Seriously, epilating is painful and guys don’t like or handle pain the same as women do.
As far as design and function, the majority of guys were pleased with the results. Results can last for up to six weeks. Currently you can purchase the Emjoi Emagine AP-18MS from Amazon through the following link.
Now back to the ladies for the final Emjoi Emagine epilator. Let’s take a look at the AP-18R.
Emjoi Emagine AP-18R
Similar to the AP-18, the AP-18R has a few more features and in my opinion is the better of the two. This model functions corded or cordless. You can charge it up for cordless use or plug it in and go.
The AP-18R also has 72 tweezers, but it features dual opposed heads to help keep the skin taught and it has dual speed control. These features are not available on the AP-18. There is also an optional shaving head (sold separately) that you can attach for grooming versus epilating.
This model can also be used on facial hair, legs, underarms, and the bikini area. For first timers, I would recommend waxing first and then use the epilator from then forward. You can expect to results to last up to six weeks, though many women report four weeks is more common.
This model is a bit more expensive then thee AP-18. Though, with the ability to use it cordless and the additional features, it is the better choice of the two. Currently you can purchase the Emjoi Emagine AP-18R from Amazon through the following link.
