Best Kneeling Pads for Gardening

We all know how much of a toll gardening can be for your knees and your pants, so this review was created with your knees in mind! In this post, we’ll go over the different types of knee protection you can have for gardening and list our favorite kneeling pads for each type.

Gardening Knee Pads

The first type of knee protection you can have specifically for gardening are gardening knee pads. Gardening knee pads are exactly what you think they are, they’re knee pads that you attach to your knee. With these, you don’t have to worry about carrying them around the garden, as they’re already attached to you, giving you the ability to kneel wherever you are in the garden without a second thought. This makes gardening knee pads extremely convenient when gardening, as opposed to our two other types of knee protection in the garden, which we’ll get into later.

Dewalt gel knee pads

DEWALT Professional Knee pads with Layered Gel

If serious comfort is what you’re looking for, look no further. Although they’re more expensive than the Fiskar’s knee pads at $35, these DeWalt kneepads are built with layered gel in them so that your knees will experience the utmost comfort while you’re on the floor kneeling. Even though these knee pads are layered with gel, they’re still very light and comfortable for all-day use. There is really no down-side to this pair of knee pads. We highly recommend them and think they’re worth every penny.

Fiskars Ultra Light Knee PadsFiskars Ultra Light Knee Pads

The Fiskars brand has yet to disappoint us in the tools department, and it doesn’t disappoint when it comes to knee pads either! These knee pads live up to their name–they are ultra lightweight, which is nice on your knees especially when you’re kneeling and getting up over and over again. Another thing we like about these knee pads is that they’re very durable, despite their lightweight construction. You don’t have to worry about ruining these knee pads when you’re out kneeling on the ground, but even if you do dirty them up, they’re extremely easy to clean. For under $10, these knee pads are a great investment.

Gardening Knee Pad – Carry

The next type of knee pad is one that you can carry around with you in the garden. These knee pads are great for those of us who don’t want to attach knee pads to our knees. An added bonus of these knee pads is that they can serve as a comfy seat for your rear in addition to your knees!

Green Thumb Yellow Garden Kneeling Pad

Backyard Garden Pro Green Thumb Knee Pad

Our pick for the best carry-around garden kneeling pad is the Green Thumb Yellow Garden Kneeling Pad. This kneeling pad is really well-built and offers 3/4 inches of kneeling protection. Although this might seem small to you, this kneeling pad is so well-built that you may not even feel the stones under your knees. It’s extremely comfortable to kneel on and offers much more space than other kneeling pads, which makes it easier for you to maneuver around on as well as sit on in the garden. This product gets rave reviews from our gardening team and is ranked extremely highly by consumers. Also, at under $8, it’s a steal!

JMK Foam Knee Pad

JMK Foam Knee PadThe JMK Foam Knee Pad is a really great value at under $5. This pad is larger than your typical kneeling knee pad, which can come in handy if you want to have a seat on the floor. This pad is about an inch thick and is durable, which shows in its stiffer construction than other knee pads. It’s a no-frills knee pad and thus doesn’t have anything fancy about it, but it does its job and it does it well.

Garden Kneelers/Benches

The last type of garden kneeling pads we will review for you are the ones that double as benches! These kneelers are heavier than the other gardening knee pads we’ve covered, but they’re great in that they double as benches, which is perfect for those who need to take a seat every once in a while or if you have bad knees. Here are our two favorite garden kneeler/benches.

Yard Butler Garden Kneeler and SeatThe Yard Butler

The Yard Butler is fantastic. It weighs only 8.5 lbs, but holds up to 250 lbs of weight. The measurements for this bench are about 6.5 inches from front to back, the pad is 16 inches long, and the distance between the legs is 22 inches. Another plus of this bench is that it folds right up allowing you to save space in your garden shed. This product has excellent consumer ratings and is our pick for the best garden kneeler/bench. At under $30, it’s a great value that will bring you support for years to come.

Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler

Wide Seat Garden Kneeler

The wide-seat garden kneeler is great for those who need a wider seat. At 5/5 stars, this product is actually rated higher than the Yard Butler. This garden kneeler also weighs 8.5 lbs, but packs incredible strength, holding over 300 lbs in weight. Dimensions for this kneeler are 3/4 inch pad, 24 inches in width, and 7 inches in depth. This garden kneeler bench also comes in 2 colors–green and purple.
