The Braun Multiquick 5 Citrus Juicer (MPZ22) is a powerful citrus juicer and fairly compact that it can be kept in a cupboard when not in use. This juicer is made of hard, glossy plastic and comes only in one colour namely white. The machine has generally four parts namely the base machine, Juicing cone, detachable plastic basket and a transparent plastic dust cover. Weighing 4 lbs, this Braun citrus juicer has unlimited capacity.

Anti-drip spout:

The Juicing cone is shaped for the fruit to be squeezed on. Under this is the area where the skin, pips and pulp are collected. At the front is the anti-drip spout that helps you extract juice straight into your glass. The base is in one complete unit with a powerful 60 watt motor.

Dust cover:

The Braun MPZ22 Citrus juicer comes with a clear plastic dust cover that fits over the cone to keep the dust off, protects the juicing cone, keeps the reamer clean and is included for hygienic reasons. With the dust cover in place, the Citromatic MPZ22 Juicer measures 9 inches in height and 6-1/2 inches in diameter.

Making Juice:

Making juice is a breeze with this juicer! Plug it in. Select your citrus fruit, be it lemons, limes, grapefruit or oranges. Cut them into half, press those on the juicing cone and the pressing makes it to rotate. Take the plastic lid off and put a small glass or we prefer a small Pyrex jug for this purpose. A Start/Stop automatic option makes it relatively easy to use. No peeling is required as the juicer does the trick for you!

The juice then pours out the spout and presses directly into the glass. When you push the anti-drip spout upwards, the flow of juice can be stopped and the glass easily switched without your having to spill a single drop. And presto, you have freshly squeezed citrus ready to be served at home. The sprout is only so high that you cannot juice directly into a really tall glass or bowl. It took only about 3 minutes for us to slice 6 small oranges and another 3 minutes to juice them. And that is pretty fast! Remove the jug from the motor block before serving the juice.

Detachable plastic basket:

There are other citrus juicers that allow the juice flow into an attached beaker, which is not that much practical, simply because it can limit the amount of juice produced and dirty another dish needlessly. The addition of a detachable plastic basket to the Braun MPZ22 Citromatic Citrus Press negates this issue altogether.

Easy cleaning:

We found the juicing fairly efficient. Nothing will be left inside the peel shell of the citrus once you are done. Cleaning up is easy and one has to merely rinse to clean. After the last fruit, tip the basket to make sure you tilt out the last little bit of juice and then quickly run it under the tap to rinse. If you leave the basket long enough after juicing with pulp in it, it may get a bit sticky. And to get the plastic parts like the cone and basket cleaned up, you will need the dishwasher. All the parts can be washed with normal dishwashing liquids. However, the motor block should be cleaned by hand washcloth or sponge only.

Warranty:

The manufacturer warrants the Braun MPZ22 Citromatic Citrus Press to be free of manufacturing defects for a period of one year.

Use & Care:

Never immerse the motor block in water or hold it under running water. For complete cleaning, take out the spout by pressing its two sides together and pull it downwards.

Drawbacks:

Like the Citromatic MPZ6 & MPZ9, it does not have an adjustable pulp control, cable storage, bowl, left & right reamer rotation feature for better squeeze out. Another drawback is that the juice chute on the side tends to occasionally clog up with seeds and you have to remove the top half of the juicer to clear them out.

Summary:

When all other juicers require one to peel citrus fruit before juicing, this juicer seems to be far more easy to use. When it is plugged in, it is on, but the top will start spinning, only if some pressure is applied to it. The juice flow is continuous, thanks to the addition of the anti-drip spout. Handling fruits of various sizes, whether a little lime or a really big grapefruit is no problem with the machine. The selling point without doubt is the ease of use. Having said that, this juicer is not completely dishwasher-safe, makes loud noises and lacks auto-reverse feature that would have otherwise resulted in better juicing.
