Bose SoundTrue II Headphones Review

Bose SoundTrue II Headphones Review

Having a great pair of headphones, with superior look and sound, can make you feel hip and stylish. Bose SoundTrue II headphones are these types of headphones.

The second generation of its kind, these SoundTrue headphones boast a comfortable listening experience, superior sound isolation, and excellent sound performance. They are a great value for the money (considering all the bells and whistles), and on-the-go headphone lovers will be smitten by the list of features that the Bose’s Soundtrue II wired headphones have in their arsenal.

Comfortable, Stylish Design

Although their design was heavily borrowed from their larger and pricier sibling (the Bose QuiteComfort 25 headphones), the Bose SoundTrue has managed to create its own path in the headphone marketplace, making it uniquely different than its counterparts, and offering unique design features that any headphone lover will be sure to appreciate.

With it’s padded headband and thin metal frame, the Bose SoundTrue II headphones are designed to provide an incredibly comfortable listening experience. While they weight just over an ounce more than the Bose SoundTrue I headphones, but are still incredibly lightweight. And not only are these headphones comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, but the top frame is layered with a leatherette material to offer a pleasing aesthetic as well. The underneath of the frame is covered in a softer material as well, which feels more like a pillow resting against your head than a pair of headphones.

The cups of the Bose SoundTrue II headphones are lined with memory foam padding that provide a similar sort of pillowy comfort. The sides  are largely extendable (and about twice as wide as their SoundTrue version 1 sibling) allowing them to be comfortably worn on even the largest of heads. Design-wise, the minimalist matte-textured plastic ear cups are the true definition of classy. The Bose logo found on the outside of the headphones is beautifully understated, adding to the minimalistic aesthetic these headphones offer.

The ear cups of these Bose headphones are also able to rotate, allowing them to both be stored more easily for travel, and to fit more comfortably during long periods of wear.

Don’t worry – your ears will never suffocate under the closed-back cups on the SoundTrue II headphones. Bose made these headphones surprisingly light so that you can wear them comfortably all day without a care in the world.

Optimized for your Phone

If you’re looking for a pair of headphones that will work seamlessly with your smartphone, have no fear – the Bose SoundTrue II headphones have you covered. Not only are they available in stylish Navy or Black colors, but they have an additional option of including either an Apple or Android in-line remote. Whichever type of smartphone you have, you’ll be able to receive and be heard on your calls clearly.

Located on the opposite side of the microphone you’ll find the Bose SoundTrue II’s in-line controls. These let you:

  • Answer & end calls
  • Play
  • Pause
  • Fast forward
  • Rewind
  • Volume up / down

Additionally, a long press of the play/pause button will activate the voice-controlled phone assistance, such as Google Now or Samsung’s S assistant, so you have access to a few voice-type controls without having to pull out your phone.

Sound Quality

The Bose SoundTrue II headphones beautifully neutral, and we mean that in the best way. These headphones will deliver any choice of music you throw at them in crisp detail with a moderate bass, submerging you into your listening experience. The smooth sound works well with a large range of music types.

The mid and high tones have great separation, and futher helps many different kinds of genres of music to be enjoyed beautifully. These headphones will also deliver a precise and hard-hitting bass, though they might not be what you’re looking for if you prefer a very heavy bass. No matter what music you throw at these Bose headphones though, you’ll be able to enjoy your audio with little to no distortion at all.

While the SoundTrue II headphones could improve a tad on  sound clarity, they definitely exceed in comparison to other wired headphones at this price point.

Noise-Cancelling

While they are not actively noise-cancelling headphones, the extra-padded ear cups of the Bose SoundTrue II headphones do passively seal out unwanted noises, and of course a headphone’s ability to block outside sound can be a must-have for some owners. Bose took this into consideration with the SoundTrue II headphones and came up with not just an eye-catching pair of headphones, but one that will help to block-out that extra noises without the worry of batteries – which most actively noise-cancelling headphones will need changed frequently to function.

While the ear cups are comfortably padded and offer some noise nullification, they will cause your ears to sweat a little more than a comparable on-ear type of headphone, so keep that in mind if you’re looking to frequently use them outside in any warmer type of weather.

Final Verdict

In a nutshell, the Bose SoundTrue is more capable in regards to reliability than your conventional wired earphones. We’re huge fans of the compact, minimalistic look Bose went for with the SoundTrue II, though it may not appeal to anyone who is looking for a “flashier” look. The compatability with all types of smart phones is a huge plus with these headphones, and it’s neutral sounding tones make them a great option for your music-listening experience, no matter your preferred genre. We definitely give the Bose SoundTrue II headphones two thumbs up.
